Chamoru Idol
Last night, my Auntie Mon, Uncle Phil, Uncle Manny and almost all the LG cousins on Guam (stale balale, helana) decided to go Karaoke. On a Monday, the 10 of us were half of the bar. Now, I've never been one to pick up a mic in public (family doesn't count), but I couldn't resist. It was pretty impressive to see the range of songs, age, and talent in my familia. Some of our selections were Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Alanis Morrissette's "You Oughta Know", Nelly Furtado's "I'm like a bird", Kenny Loggins' "Danny's song", Sting's "Fields of Gold", Scissor Sisters' "Take your mama", Elton John's "Daniel", Michelle Branch & Santana's "Game of love", and Lou Rawls' "You'll never find a love like mine". Lordy, it was a lot of fun! We drank, took shots, stole each other's mics, made up background lyrics, harmonized, and laughed our asses off. I don't know if it was misspellings (Santana was "Aantana"), the wrong lyrics, old footage of out-of-work, half naked models shown in the background, or someone being really off-key and not knowing the songs, but it was a goooooood time.
